Frequently Asked Questions

Fault Code guide for On-Board & Portable for Dual Pro & Eagle Performance Series Chargers :

Q: What do the blinking lights on my charger mean?

A:
All Pro, SE, XL, and Eagle Performance Series chargers display fault codes via flashing lights. Legacy chargers produced prior to 2008 have blinking lights that indicate the following:

  • 1 RED BLINKING LED: No Battery Detected. Check connections for proper polarity (black wire to negative). Contact us if the issue persists.
  • 2 RED BLINKING LEDS: Forming Stage Timeout. The charger terminates if battery voltage does not rise above 1.75 volts per cell within 3 hours. Reset by unplugging and reconnecting the charger.
  • 3 RED BLINKING LEDS: Overall Timer Shutdown. The charger terminates if the charge cycle exceeds the factory-set time. Reset by unplugging and reconnecting the charger.
  • 4 RED BLINKING LEDS: Internal Over-temp Shutdown
The charger shuts down if internal temperatures exceed specified levels. Allow the unit to cool and reset.
  • 5 RED BLINKING LEDS: Overvoltage Protection
This indicates a possible output defect. Discontinue use and contact technical support.

B. For legacy PS and SS Marine chargers the flashing light sequences indicate the following:

  • 30% LED indicator flashing. No battery detected, check the connections for proper polarity (black wire to negative).
  • 30 AND 50% LED indicators flashing.  This indicates a Forming Stage timeout and alerts the user that the battery voltage has not risen above an acceptable limit within 3 hours.  Battery should be tested.
  • 30, 50 and 90% LED indicators flashing.  This indicates that the
charger has exceeded the maximum amount of time allowed for charging the battery.  Battery should be tested.
  • 30 and 90% LED indicators flashing. This indicates that the internal temperature of the charger has exceeded allowable limits and this bank of the charger has shut down.  If charger is in a closed compartment, open compartment doors and allow charger to cool for 8 hours.  After this period, connect the charger to AC and begin charging again.

C. For Auto Profile PS and SS chargers:

  • 70% solid, 90%, and 100% LED’s continually scrolling. This indicates a period in which the charger bank has shut off charging current to allow firmware to analyze the battery immediately after initial charging has been accomplished.
  • 90% solid with 100% LED blinking. This indicates a period in which the charger bank has confirmed successful initial charging and is monitoring and analyzing the battery to determine whether a Lithium, AGM, or FLA battery is connected.  At the completion of this portion, additional charging might occur with a solid 100% LED for AGM batteries if required.

D. ES800 Fault Code Guide:

  • 2nd and 3rd RED LEDS Blinking: DC OUTPUT LEADS - REVERSE
    POLARITY.
If the charger’s DC output leads are connected to the
battery terminals incorrectly (positive to negative or negative to positive), a
reverse-polarity condition will occur. Reconnect the charger correctly to clear the fault condition.
  • 1st RED LED Blinking: NO AC POWER DETECTED. Please check your AC power connection to verify you are
getting proper voltage to the battery charger.
  • 2nd RED LED Blinking: NO BATTERY DETECTED. This indication occurs whenever the charger circuitry cannot detect a battery. The charger circuitry will not allow charge current to flow under this condition. With the AC power supply cord unplugged, check the connection to the batteries for proper polarity (black wire to negative or—and red (or white wire with red heat shrink) to positive or +). Also check for corrosion free secure connections to the battery.
  • 1st and 2nd RED LEDS Blinking: FORMING STAGE TIMEOUT SHUTDOWN. This indication occurs if the battery voltage has not risen
above 1.75 volts per cell within the first 3 hours of charging. This indicates that a possible battery problem exists and that the charge cycle has been terminated at this point.
  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd RED LEDS Blinking: OVERALL TIMERSHUTDOWN. This indication occurs if the charger has not completed the charge cycle within the allowable factory set time period. This indicates that a possible battery problem exists and that the charge cycle has been terminated
    at this point.
  • 1st and 3rd RED LEDS Blinking: INTERNAL OVERTEMP SHUTDOWN.
This indication occurs if the charger circuitry has detected operating temperatures inside the charger enclosure that are above factory specified levels. This could indicate that a possible charger problem exists and that the charge cycle has been terminated.
  • 1st RED LED and GREEN LED Blinking: BULK STAGE SHUTDOWN. This indication occurs if the battery voltage does not rise properly during the Bulk Stage. This indicates that a possible battery problem exists and that the charge cycle has been terminated at this point.
  • ALL LEDS (THREE
REDS AND GREEN) Blinking: POWER PLANT FAULT.
This is a general fault display that may occur if the internal circuitry senses any performance parameters are not within normal ranges. Normally, if this fault occurs, the internal diagnostics will address the issue and clear the fault. If the fault condition does not clear itself,
remove AC power and call tech support at 615-471-5300.

Note: Disconnecting and reconnecting the AC power supply cord will reset the charger.

Troubleshooting continued:

Q: Is it normal for my charger to hum even when fully charged?
A:
Yes, a slight hum is normal when plugged into AC power. If the green lights are on, the charger is in standby mode.

Q: Do I need to remove the jumper wire between batteries when using my Dual Pro Charger on a 24V system?
A:
No, the charger’s independent banks can charge each battery simultaneously without removing the jumper.

Q: Why won’t my charger start charging after a long period of inactivity?
A:
If batteries have been unused for a long time, their voltage may fall below the charger’s threshold. Use a manual charger briefly to raise the voltage, then reconnect the PCS charger.

Q: One bank on my charger isn’t working. What should I do?
A:
Swap the affected bank with a working bank. If the problem moves, it’s likely the battery. If the same bank remains unresponsive, contact us for support.

Q: Can I extend my charger’s cables? A: Yes, but only at the ring terminal location. Do not cut the black casing, as it contains the temperature sensor. Use a minimum of 14 AWG cable for extensions.
